Monument to the Great Hurricane of 1900 - Galveston TX

featured Monument to the Great Hurricane of 1900 - Galveston TX

Posted in memory of those killed this week in the Samoan tsunami and Indonesian earthquakes.

An abstract shot of one of the most beautiful and most poignant sculptures I have ever seen. September 8, 1900 - Six thousand people lost their lives in this storm in Galveston TX. Back then, hurricanes were not named as they are today. To this day, it is still the worst natural disaster ever to happen on U.S. soil.

What a great tribute ! I feel so sorry for those in Indonesia right now... they have had some of the worst disasters... Hope there is no more people killed cuz from what i read last, 777 people is already too many... Amen.

A beautiful memorial. I didn't know about this hurricane and have just googled it - a terrible loss of life.

I looked at this memorial last weekend, but didn't see the potential for a great shot that you did.
